Clinton & McCain Drinking Contest at Gloria, Tallinn

May 18, 2008 by Helen Yuet Ling Pang

I HAVE MOVED MY BLOG TO WWW.WORLDFOODIEGUIDE.COM. CLICK HERE TO READ THE REST OF THIS POST. IT’S EASIER TO NAVIGATE THE NEW BLOG, WHICH HAS MORE CONTENT AND PHOTOS. THANKS! HELEN YUET LING PANG

Have you heard the news that back in 2004, Hilary Clinton beat John McCain in a vodka drinking contest at Gloria in Tallinn, Estonia? Gloria is one of my highest rated restaurants in the world. It’s an incredible experience, and I would fly to Tallinn just to eat at Gloria…

    Amazing and well done Helen.
Bee and I were in a hole-in-the-wall place in Phuket called Number 4 where Bill Clinton signed on the wall when he last ate there, I think with Hillary and Chelsea, but I cannot be sure. Number 4 is not as expensive as Gloria, at least not when we were there. Their Curry Crab was outstanding and we cannot wait to go back, assuming it has been fully restored after the Tsunami. Watch out for the cashew salad – order it as “Mai Peht” — or the little green chopped chilli may burn your tongue. Perhaps my Loquat jam will sooth it. Mai Peht is Thai for “not chilli hot please”.

It seems the Clintons are quite happy to leave their marks on restaurants they visit. We have seen their photos and autographs in at least two other restaurants, Daphne in Athens and another one in Chicago the name of which escapes me for the moment, perhaps Avec or Blackbird or 21.

    Hello Cockroach Catcher

Number 4′s curry crab sounds delicious, thanks for the recommendation, and the ‘Mai Peht’ tip – essential for me!
