Another delicious Japanese recipe from my stepmother-in-law! We recently had a discussion about gyoza (the Japanese version of Chinese pan-fried dumplings, also known as ‘potstickers’ in the States), as my husband and I tried making the Chinese version, and they turned out really well.
Japanese Fried Prawn Gyoza: (for 4 as a starter or for 2 big eaters!)
- 24 prawns
- 1 piece of fresh ginger (about 3 cm)
- 1/4 cup of chopped spring onions
- 24 gyoza wrappers (from a Japanese supermarket)
- 3 cups of vegetable oil
What to do next:
Peel the prawns and remove the veins, but leave the tails on. Season with salt and pepper. Mince ginger and chopped spring onions together. Dampen the edge of a gyoza wrapper with a little water, then wrap around a prawn and a bit of ginger and spring onions. Roll it tight and stick the edges down, leaving the tail outside the wrapper. Fry in oil in a saucepan until crisp. Serve them nice and hot!
